On behalf of Landau Institute for Theoretical Physics and the Organizing Committee, we are pleased to announce the Second Workshop "SOLITONS, COLLAPSES and TURBULENCE: Achievements, Developments and Perspectives" (SCT-2002) to be conducted on August 18-22, 2002 at Landau Institute for Theoretical Physics, Chernogolovka, Moscow region, Russia.
The First Workshop "Solitons, Collapses and Turbulence: Achievements, Developments and Perspectives" was organized in 1999 at Landau Institute in honor of Vladimir Zakharov's 60th birthday. The workshop SCT-2002 will be of the same format as the first workshop had.
The workshop SCT-2002 will cover a broad spectrum of problems within three topics of crucial interest in nonlinear science: solitons, collapses and turbulence. The main goal of this workshop is to bring together key scientists with various background and expertise, both physicists and mathematicians, (young researchers are welcome) working in the field of nonlinear science in order to discuss the main directions of development, achievements and perspectives, to fortify existent connections and (or) establish new links between three main branches of nonlinear science: SOLITONS, COLLAPSES and TURBULENCE.
The topics will range from nonlinear optics, plasma physics, hydrodynamics, solid state physics, to soliton theory, combining application of the inverse scattering transform and recent approaches to exact integrable and near integrable models to concrete physical problems, physics of collapses, both weak and strong turbulence, chaos. Theory, experiment and industrial applications will be represented, the underlying objective being to conduct a truly interdisciplinary workshop.
Persons interested in participating can receive the second announcement with additional details and the registration form by contacting the Organizers or look at http://www.itp.ac.ru/solitons/
Landau Institute for Theoretical Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences together with International Institute for Nonlinear Science (Moscow) and Scientific Council "Nonlinear Dynamics" of RAS are convening from August 18 until August 22, 2002, the Second Workshop "SOLITONS, COLLAPSES AND TURBULENCE: Achievements, Developments and Perspectives" (SCT-02).
The workshop will be held in Chernogolovka (40 km north east from Moscow) in the building of the Scientist House of Scientific Center of RAS in Chernogolovka but partially in the building of the Landau Institute for Theoretical Physics there.
The workshop will cover a broad spectrum of problems within three topics of crucial interest in nonlinear science: solitons, collapses and turbulence.
The topics will range from nonlinear optics, plasma physics, hydrodynamics, solid state physics, differential geometry, string theory, and gravity, to soliton theory, combining the inverse scattering transform and recent approaches to exact integrable and near integrable models, wave collapse physics, turbulence and chaos.
Theory, experiment and industrial applications will be represented, the underlying objective being to conduct a truly interdisciplinary workshop.
Scientific programme of the workshop will include:
The members of the Scientific Programme Committee are listed below. They will be responsible for selecting the contributions.
EXPECTED NUMBER OF SPEAKERS: 70
EXPECTED NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS: 100
The REGISTRATION FEE will be $ 100. The participants from Eastern European countries, Russia and ICS will pay a reduced registration fee (which will be defined later). The fee will cover all the social events (informal get-together on arrival, official reception, Banquet, excursions, etc.) and "Workshop Abstracts" printing.
TOTAL expenses including hotel, meals and registration fee are estimated approximately near $400.
PRELIMINARY REGISTRATION form and HOTEL RESERVATION form are enclosed with this Announcement. Please fill both in and return them to the Workshop Secretary, according to the deadline schedule (see below).
Persons interested in participating can receive the third announcement with additional details and the registration form by contacting the Workshop Secretary. The information about the WORKSHOP is also available through http://www.itp.ac.ru, item 'Conferences'.
